Darren became interested in drag racing in the mid-seventies after attending his first race at Seattle International Raceway. After graduating from high school, be began his career in the sport, working for west-coast driver, Jerry Ruth. He went on to work for the late Gary Ormsby through the 1983 season before joining up with Larry minor Motorsports, a team that had the best of everything to work with. He worked under crew chief, Bernie Fedderly for the next two years before moving back to the Ormsby camp until the 1988 season where he accepted an offer to work for Shirley Muldowney racing. That would last until their sponsorship ended four years later.

Since starting his own successful business in the early 90's, Darren has been a part-time crew member on Muldowney's team, working match-races and open competition on the IHRA tour.
